Murphy Writing: Autumn Writing Getaway
Open to new and experienced writers of creative nonfiction, memoir, fiction, and poetry, this online getaway led by Peter E. Murphy is designed to draw inspiration from “meaningful craft discussions, imaginative exercises, and supportive sharing.” This is a chance to connect with a constructive community of other creatives and possibly awaken new inspiration.
The premise of the event is that fiction, nonfiction, and poetry writers can learn more about their own craft by exploring the craft of others. This event will be held via Zoom on November 5, 2022 from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm EST. The cost of tuition is $25-$75. The fee is on a sliding scale, but if you can pay more, it would help Murphy Writing provide affordable programming and scholarships to writers.
Call for Entries: Bram Stoker Awards
Halloween has come and gone, but die-hard horror fans don’t care. You can still submit your work to the Bram Stoker Awards—the premier awards in the horror genre. The intent of the awards is to recognize the best in horror. Though backed by the Horror Writers Association (HWA), you don’t need to be a member to submit your work. Any work of horror first published in English may be considered for an award during the year of its publication.
Works can become nominees for the awards through two paths. In one, members of the HWA recommend worthy works for consideration. From these recommendations, a preliminary ballot is compiled for each category. In the other, a jury for each category also compiles a preliminary ballot, and two rounds of voting by HWA Active members determines the Final Ballot (the nominees) and then the winners.
The winners are announced and the Bram Stoker Awards are presented at a banquet. Lifetime Achievement Awards are sometimes presented to individuals whose entire body of work has substantially influenced the horror genre. The Bram Stoker Awards trophy itself is a masterfully sculpted eight-inch haunted house. When the doors are opened, they reveal a bronze plaque engraved with the name of the winning work and its author.
There are two submission periods:
January 1 through November 30, 2022 — For all works published between January 1, 2022 and November 30, 2022
December 1 through December 31, 2022 — For all works published between December 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022
