The 1106 Design Process: What Authors Can Expect
At 1106 Design, we pride ourselves on delivering top-notch, high-quality book editing, cover design, interior design and layout, eBook formatting, and audiobook production, among other services. However, we offer more than meets the eye: Included with every service is dedicated project management and hand-holding.
The 1106 Design Difference
First of all, 1106 Design is not a publisher—we’re an author services company that tailors each project to suit authors’ needs. Here, authors only pay for what they need, and there are no hidden fees or “gotcha” clauses in our contracts.
With our model, authors retain full control of their accounts, files, rights, and revenue. This is what true self-publishing is all about, and when you hire us, you don’t need to do everything alone.
We have your back every step of the way.
How 1106 Design Helps Authors
Self-publishing is full of pitfalls, and first-time authors, especially, are understandably confused by the process.
Many authors don’t know about ISBNs, how to set up their titles at IngramSpark and KDP, what elements to review when considering interior layout samples, the optimal word count for back cover copy, etc. The list goes on.
Moreover, most don’t have the time or experience to vet, manage, and keep track of all the vendors required to edit and design their books. Trying to handle every individual detail can be a headache, especially if you’re also trying to find time to write your next book, be with family, or, you know, pay the bills.
That’s where we come in.
What 1106 Design Project Management Entails
We do the heavy lifting so you have more time for other important matters.
When you hire us, you’ll work with a dedicated project manager who will . . .
answer any questions you may have,
share advice,
help keep track of all your files,
review and relay messages between you and our team,
. . . and more.
This is a lot of responsibility, but we don’t shoulder all of it.
The Author’s Role in Project Management
If you’re truly self-publishing, you’re the publisher, not just the author. This, in turn, means you are ultimately responsible for getting your book to market.
At 1106 Design, projects don’t move forward without author consent. While we offer guidance and advice, we believe authors should have the final say in all decisions, unlike many companies who ignore or discourage author feedback for the sake of churning out books as quickly as possible.
This means we run every idea and iteration by you before moving on to the next step. We’ll do all the work on the back end to get the gears moving, but authors help keep them moving by reviewing and providing feedback on the editing, cover design, interior design, etc.
This collaborative approach keeps you in the driver’s seat and helps ensure we arrive at a final product you love.
Project management is a big job and one of the core services 1106 Design provides. If you’re interested in learning more about our services, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’d love to be a part of your publishing journey!
